Joan Baez is a dynamic force of nature. Her commitment to music and social activism has earned global recognition, ranging from induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, to the Ambassador of Conscience Award, Amnesty International’s highest honor. Retired from active touring since 2019, she has devoted much of her time to the “Mischief Makers” series of paintings, portraits that immortalize risk-taking visionaries she has known, who have brought about social change through history, including Dr. Martin Luther King, Bob Dylan, Dalai Lama, Patti Smith and more.
Most recently, Baez released a new autobiographical poetry collection, “When You See My Mother, Ask Her to Dance,” this past spring on Godine. Released to critical praise, Vanity Fair calls the book, “The result of an American icon revisiting her archives and taking back her history.” Throughout the collection, Baez shares poems for or about her contemporaries, reflections from her childhood, personal thoughts, and cherished memories of her family. Baez is also the subject of the 2023 documentary, “Joan Baez I Am a Noise,” which premiered at the 73rd Berlin International Film Festival and was released to widespread acclaim by Magnolia Pictures.
